Springtime for Teesside and Local Bands!

Albums, EPs and Singles abound for Teesside bands this March as FOUR launch events are set to take place between The Georgian Theatre and The Green Room – a brand new, and very intimate, venue at Green Dragon Studios, both in Stockton.

Some of the most prominent, and promising, acts on Teesside will be celebrating the fruits of their labour with special events at the two venues based in Stockton’s Cultural Quarter.

Bird Island kick things off as they mark the launch of their debut EP on Friday 2nd March. It’s a double celebration as the band perform the first ever gig in The Green Room, which is located at Green Dragon Studios.

The duo has quickly established themselves as one of the hottest bands around. With a distinctive, laid back sound reminiscent of American Indie greats like Interpol and Modest Mouse, their self-titled debut EP is sure to find its way onto summer playlists everywhere.

Phil Saunders of No School Reunion and Exit by Name fame celebrates the launch of his debut solo album Hardcore Folklore with a good old knees-up at The Georgian Theatre, Stockton on Saturday 10th March. “There is an honesty & warmth to this rocked out folk.” Die Shellsuit, Die!

And if support from Lift (groove-laden funked-up rock), Lessons (anthemic punk rock with a twist) and Bisons (pop-punk perfection) doesn’t complete the package for you - everyone who attends the gig also get a FREE copy of the album as well.

Everybody’s favourite cheeky chappies Randy and The Handstand Band have come a long way in a short time, and are hosting their first official single launch at The Georgian Theatre on Saturday 17th March.

It is sure to be a foot-stomper of a night as the lads always provide with their energetic brand of rip-roaring Arctic Monkeys-esque indie rock. Support comes in the shape of The Hamlets and The Panoramic, yet more proof of the abundance of youthful talent currently gracing Teesside.

The month ends with a single launch featuring two artists, self-proclaimed ‘baroque history-rock racketeers’ By Toutatis and lo-fi folk popsters Dressed Like Wolves, at The Green Room on Saturday 24th March.

By Toutatis are made up of former Idiot Savant members and have drawn comparison to The National whilst 3-piece Dressed By Wolves create haunting lo-fi sounds that evoke Bright Eyes. Hand made copies of the single will be available for purchase on the night.

Tickets for all events are £4 in advance or £6 on the door and are available at www.georgiantheatre.co.uk.
