This Sunday, Milestones brings us idiosyncratic guitarist, Chris Sharkey. Chris was born in Gateshead and now resides in Leeds. He plays guitar in no particular style, with lots of different people. Most of what he plays is made up on the spot. Chris’ performances will be fascinating and those of us who saw him at the Georgian Theatre last will remember him especially for his enthusiasm in support of our workshop students.

Lord Auch where formed from the ashes of BLACK WIRE. Their debut single got great press in June, with musical influences from the likes of Scott Walker and Birthday Party. Support from Hell on High Heels and Russell and the Wolves.

Dave Mosely returns with witty banter and fab songs. This guy has opened the show for Shane Mcgowan, Sam Brown and Dodgy. Mike Braye, who is new to us, is resident singer/songwriter at the Comedy Store in Manchester. Carl Eaton and Cush who has travelled Britain picking up songs along the way complete the line up.

This Sunday ‘Milestones’ we welcome special guest Ruth Lambert one of the country’s most accomplished and versatile jazz singers. Ruth accompanied by her quintet will be performing an impressive repertoire of standards.

24th JulyNExNE Live presents Kathryn Williams + The Grants£6.00

As part of NExNE, Alan McGhee has invited Kathryn Williams (who he once managed) and The Grants (a new group from Liverpool) to appear at the Georgian Theatre. Kathryn is one of the UK's most respected and critically acclaimed singer-songwriters. She made her first album Dog Leap Stairs in 1999 and famously recorded it for the princely sum of £80! The NME declared it “jaw-droppingly beautiful”. The follow-up, Little Black Numbers, garnered a Mercury nomination, bringing her to the attention of a wider public. The Grants are a dynamic four-piece, from Liverpool, whose myspace site quickly attracted the attention of Alan McGee. Alan invited the band to play at his Notting Hill club night, Death Disco. Impressed by their music and attitude, Alan has invited the band to record an album, in Palm Springs, for his new Creation Studios venture.

Liverpool’s Cavern Club regulars The Underdogs return for an unplugged set. These lads ooze talent. Martin Hughes who is currently residing in Leeds makes his first Loosely Acoustic appearance. Martin has opened for Tom Mcrae and more recently Young Republic from America. Local lad Jonathon Booth is back with his polished pop to complete the line up.

A troubadour, a stunning singer, passionate songwriter and a guitarist with a dazzling technique, Dick has been at the cutting edge of Scottish music for almost four decades. He has been a member of Boys of the Lough, Five Hand Reel and founded and produced the short-lived but quite extraordinary ensemble Clan Alba. Well known for his forthright and long-held political views, the legendary Dick Gaughan just doesn’t do gigs which are ‘ordinary’.
