A Brief History of Tees Music Alliance

Tees Music Alliance

Formed back in March 1986 as Middlesbrough Music Collective – then merging with sister organisation Stockton Music & Arts Collective (S.M.A.C) in 2006 to form Tees Music Alliance.

TMA is charitable, not for profit social enterprise operating for the benefit of our community.

For the past 30 years, our primary focus has been to play our part in building a thriving live music scene in Teesside - underpinned with a strong sense of social responsibility. We do this through our premises and activities - all of which are operated on a not-for-profit basis, with all income being recycled to provide other services and events.

Our premises and activities include a recording & rehearsal facility Green Dragon Studios, two live music venues - The Georgian Theatre and The Green Room - and a music festival Stockton Calling – a multi-venue spanning music spectacular that takes place in the heart of Stockton on Tees.

Our work is funded through a range of sources including trusts, foundations, local authority and Arts Council contributions.

Volunteers play a huge part in what we do – whether it’s helping with events, serving as our Trustees or just providing spare pairs of hands.

In 2015, we announced, in partnership with Stockton Borough Council, major redevelopment plans for The Georgian Theatre, a redevelopment that eventually saw the Grade II listed theatre expand into some adjacent council-owned premises - re-opening in 2017 with an increased audience capacity and much imporved toilet, bar and social spaces.
